This thirteen-week blended course is intended to help you develop the skills and attitudes necessary for providing elderly care. In this course participants will gain a deeper understanding of ageing and its clinical implications. Geriatric assessments and validated tools used in comprehensive care of the elderly will also be discussed. The blended nature of this course includes practical exercises with facilitator feedback. It is designed to enhance the knowledge and practice of any physician who cares for elderly patients.
This course fits in well with the mission statement of The UWI because it prepares the participant for clinical care of a vulnerable group in society. It encourages practice that is of the highest evidence-based standards taking into consideration the patient’s values. This course will be conducted virtually using several best practices in online delivery. Knowledge check quizzes, interactive lectures, reflective practice, online case studies, critical self-appraisal of practice will be some of the main assessments for this course.
